Day 1: Marrakech – Aït Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Zagora
Marrakech:The tour from Marrakech start when we pick you up from your hotel and travel along the Tizi n’Tichka Pass. The Tizi n’Tichka is a mountain pass in Morocco, at an elevation of 2260m (6,867 ft.) above sea level, linking the southeast of Marrakesh to the city of Ouarzazate through the High Atlas Mountains. It lays between the great Marrakech Plains and the Gateway of the Sahara Desert. This long winding road offers many breathtaking views and the scenery promises to be nothing short of spectacular. The natural backdrop of the enormous rocks reflects colors in every shade of orange, red and brown imaginable while still visible in the deep valleys is the contrasting green from different types of cultivation of the local villagers.
Aït Benhaddou: Along the route you will stop to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aït Benhaddou, a spectacular fortified village (Ksar). While in Aït Benhaddou you will have time for lunch, which will be in a traditional restaurant, before traveling on to Ouarzazate.
Ouarzazate: In Ouarzazate you will visit the cinema studios of Atlas & CLA Studios where many movies were produced thus being called “The Hollywood of Africa.” Atlas Studio & CLA Studios is home to many prestigious movies filmed from Lawrence of Arabia, Tea in Sahara, Black Hawk Down, Moses, Gladiator, Cleopatra, The Mummy 1 & 2, Alexander the Great, Kingdom of Heaven, Sahara, Troy, Hidalgo, Patton, The Hills has Eyes, The Way Back, Babel,Treasure Island, Jewel of the Nile, Gladiator, Ben HurandThe Passions of Christand even more.
You will visit the Kasbah Taourirt, originally built in the 17th century, one of Morocco’s most iconic living museums. It has withstood the test of time, making it the ideal setting for an insight into the ancient traditions of Kasbah life. Here, you will be able to take a look at some tools that were used in the area generations ago, and some that are still used today in southern Morocco. After you’ve taken in the traditional ways of the Kasbah, make your way up the stairs to the top of the fortification to get a stunning view of the surrounding Skoura palm groves. Once we have completed the tour of the area we will travel on to Zagora.
Zagora: Once you arrive to Zagora, your accommodation(s) and dinner will be in a riad/hotel.
Day 2: Zagora – Erg Chegaga Desert
Zagora:After your morning breakfast at the riad/hotel, we will leave Zagora to travel towards the Erg Chegaga Desert.
Erg Chegaga Desert: Upon your arrival to Erg Chegagayou will embark upon a camel and journey into the Desert. The camels will be packed with food and blankets, as well as the other essentials needed for this one night stay in the desert. We will trek our way through the sand to a small Oasis in the middle of the dunes. Here is where you will be spending your evening, where the sky is clear and stars sparkle and shine with intensity. Your accommodations this evening will be camping in a Nomad Berber Tent.
Once settled in at camp, a campfire will be lit and our staff will play music with drums in order to share our culture with yours. Afterwards you will be severed your dinner under the star filled skies at the campfire or in the restaurant tent at the camp.
Day 3: Erg Chegaga –Ouarzazate – Rose Valley – Dadès Gorges
In the morning, after having a sunrise breakfast, we will break camp and ride our camels out of the desert and back to our original point of departure. We will leave Erg Chegaga to travel to Dadès Gorges, while making some stops along the way.
Agdez: You will visit a Berber village in Agdez, a town in the mid-southern Morocco in the Atlas Mountains. Agdez, which means “resting place” is located along an old caravan route linking Marrakech to Timbuktu, and played an important role in the exchange of goods across the Sahara.
Valley of Draà: You will see the Draa Valley is located in the deep south of Morocco, it is a place where an oasis that stretches majestically over 200 km from Ouarzazate into the Sahara Desert. It embraces beautiful views, a great river, as well as the large desert that makes this oasis so magnificent and perfect to visit.
Kelaat M’Gouna: At the southernmost gorges is the AsifM’Goun River, which runs alongside of a small town referred to as Valley of the Roses. The Valley of the Roses is known for the extensive harvest of roses, used in the production of perfume, rose water, oil, and cosmetic products. Among the foliage you will also find groves of palm and almond trees.
Dadès Gorges:Once you arrive toDadès Gorges, your accommodation(s) and dinner will be in a riad/hotel.
Day 4:Dadès Gorges- Todgha Gorges – Erfoud -Merzouga – Erg Chebbi
After an early breakfast, you will leave your raid/hotel to travel towards the Sahara Desert, Merzouga. You will see many Berber villages scattered along the way.
Dadès Gorges: The Dadès Gorges is a scenically beautiful section of the Dades River Valley in between the Atlas Mountains and the Anti Atlas. The Gorge is best known for mesmerizing scenery and the Kasbahs set precariously along the roadside, overlooking the river below.
Tinghir:One of the most spectacular Gorges in the world, Todgha Gorges is a series of limestone river canyons in the eastern part of the High Atlas Mountains in Morocco, near Tinghir. Both the Todgha and Dades Rivers are responsible for cutting out these deep cliff-sided canyons. The heights of the canyon walls vary, but in some places can be up to 400m (1,312 ft.) high.
Tinejdad: Stop to visit a Berber village famous for its’ palms.
Jorf:Here you will stop to visit the old Canal of Irrigation. This area dates back to the 14th century and has provided water for towns and villages for several centuries. The underground aqueducts were designed to transport water slopes without active pumping. In the 1970’s diesel pumps were put in to use causing some of the aqueducts in this region to go dry. Recent studies concluded that the depth of the water table has dropped 50% over the past 40 years, which has affected the amount of date palm grown in the region.
Erfoud:Erfoud is a town in southern Morocco, in the Tafilalet-region. Erfoud has been given the name of “The Gate of Sahara Desert” as it is near the Erg Chebbi Dunes since you can actually take direct off-road route to the dunes.
While traveling through Erfoud, which is known for its precious and unique fossils, we will stop to visit the workers of fossils and the Erfoud Market of Dates.
Merzouga: When you arrive to Merzouga we will go to a hotel, drink a mint tea and secure any luggage that you may not need for the next leg of the tour. From here we will go to Erg Chebbi where you will embark upon a second camel ride and journey into the Sarah Desert. The camels will be packed with food and blankets, as well as the other necessities needed for this one night stay in the desert. We will trek our way through the sand to a small Desert Camp. Here is where you will be spending your evening camping in a Nomad Berber Tent.
Once settled in at camp, a campfire will be lit and music will be played. Your dinner will be severed to you under the Saharan skies ‘blanket of stars’ at the campfire or in the restaurant tent at the camp.
Day 5:Merzouga – Jorf- Todgha Gorges – Ouarzazate – Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
In the morning, after having a sunrise breakfast, we will break camp and ride our camels out of the desert and back to our original point of departure. You will then travel back to the hotel so that you can shower, have breakfast and collect your luggage before starting on your way back towards Ouarzazate and onto Marrakech. We will stop along the route for lunch. You will arrive to Ouarzazate in afternoon, after a short break, you will continue on to Marrakech at which time this will end our services.
